Coconut Milk & Gula Melaka Agar | Agar Gula Merah & Santan

This is a pretty and super easy Indonesian dessert.

  • 2 pack  Agar agar powder
  • 550 cc Coconut milk grated & strained from 2 fresh coconut
  • ½ tbsp Salt
  • 950 cc Water
  • 40 g Sugar
  • 200 g Palm sugar | gula merah
  • 300 cc Water for cooking palm sugar & sugar


  • Melt chunks of gula melaka and sugar in the second part of water called in the recipe.
  • Season the coconut milk with a bit of salt. Set aside.
  • Add the remaining water and agar in a pot. Strain sugar liquid into the pot. Cook over medium heat.
  • Let it boil for a couple of minutes.
  • Quickly stir the coconut milk into boiling agar mixture. Do not turn the heat off. 
  • Pour the agar mixture into the prepared mould. 
  • Let set for 3-6 hours, then chilled overnight, or less. Slice and serve chilled.
